Philip Explains The Scriptures
Acts 8:27-32 And he (Philip) arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasure and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot he read Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join yourself to this chariot. And Philip ran there to him and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you indeed understand what you are reading? And he said, How can I unless some man should guide me? And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. And the content of the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so He opened not His mouth. In His humiliation His judgment was taken away, and who shall declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth."
Philip explains that Isaiah was speaking about Jesus Christ, His life and the events of His arrest, torture and crucifixion. After this the eunuch believed and asked to be baptized.
Would it not be awesome if Philip would just show up and explain the Bible to us? This story has entered my mind at times when I was studying God’s Word, wishing someone would tell me what I just read. So since Philip has never visited me, I go to God in prayer and ask Him to show me the meaning.
I have said before - I saw something for the first time after reading a verse or chapter again. I know that it is God opening my eyes to further meaning each time I read His Word. Isn’t our Father awesome!
Father, We humbly thank You for showing us what You would have us to see in Your Word. We also thank You for Your love and compassion while teaching us life lessons. In Jesus’ name. Amen
