Enough Stuff? We Want More!
Luke 12:16-21 And He spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room in which to store my fruits? And he said, I will do this. I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and I will store all my fruits and my goods there. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared? So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. How many times have we been just like this man? Do we not want that bigger house, better vehicle and more money than we really need. Well I sure was just like him! The last house I bought had 4 bedrooms, a huge living room, an eat-in kitchen, a formal dinning room, and a den. It was just my mother and me, but I had to have the best. I had all of my fancy collections in curio cabinets, all of the outdoor decorations, landscaping and on and on. I was so proud. Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Oh how true - I fell! I lost my job and then my fancy 4X4 Toyota Tacoma and had to sell my home at a loss because it was a buyers market. Talk about learning a hard lesson! I got on my knees and prayed and cried and prayed some more. Thank God that He did not require my soul first. Are you like I was? Do you need to do some house cleaning in your heart? I pray that you will fall on your knees before you really fall. Father, Thank You for more great lessons in Your Word and in person. Father I pray for those who are still building up their treasures here on earth instead of heavenly treasures. Please touch their hearts Lord and show them Your mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen
